    About Us

*Pursuant to Section 611 of the Communications Act, local franchising authorities may require cable operators to set aside channels for public, educational or governmental (PEG) use.

    History

In late 1980, The Western Reserve Cable Consortium was formed with an initial membership of nine communities; the consortium awarded the franchise to Adelphia Communications in March of 1981.

Each city appointed one representative to the Consortium Board. Charged with the creation and implementation of Cable 9’s policies and procedures, the Citizen Advisory Board was fazed out and the staff of Cable 9 began to take shape. We aired our first show – a high school football game – in September of 1982 with a staff of one.

We changed to Community Focus as our reach expanded from television and into social media, on-demand, and other services available on this site.

    What We Do

Community Focus has been one of the country’s leading P.E.G. channels* for over forty years, growing in that time to serve Aurora, City of Twinsburg, Twinsburg Township, Macedonia, the Village of Reminderville, Sagamore Hills Township and Northfield Center Township.

    Advocating & Educating

Community Focus’ greatest resource continues to be the people who have worked to build it. A significant part of our station’s evolution comes from the staff and the fact that they are members of the communities that we serve. Community members receive unparalleled access to our professional equipment and our experienced staff. Students spending time or internships become an integral part of what we do from day one. The learning curve is steep and many of these former volunteers have gone on to professional broadcasting careers of their own. They often return to help out, and remain one of our station’s greatest assets.

Community Focus places an emphasis on the professional quality of our productions. This, too, serves our greater goal of offering true diversity of programming regardless of age, race, gender, religion, disability or economic status. Community Focus advocates and educates, but has also taken the next step in local access television. We work with community members to turn television that people want to MAKE into television that people actually want to WATCH.

Community Focus provides nearly 117 hours of weekly programming on Spectrum channel 1021–hours of which are local access. We are passionate by the impact our work has made on our communities. Our relationships with local governments, civil groups, businesses, local newspapers and schools have always been strong.

    More Than Just a Channel

Community Focus (as Cable 9) was twice recognized as the Country’s top P.E.G. Access channel by The Alliance for Community Media. We have been recognized with 11 TELLY Awards for excellence in production quality, and dozens of civic awards for service and philanthropy. We remain, as ever, excited to continually raise the expectations of our audience, and do our part to increase public interest and community activism overall.

This website enables viewers to speak back and offer questions for The Mayor’s Reports and request re-airings from our archives for Cable 9 Classic Sports. We have long used community feedback as a barometer of our success.

Please be sure to follow our social media links at the bottom of the home page for up to the minute information.

Community Focus … more than just a channel.

    Public Access

Public access channels are available for use by the general public. They are usually administered either by the cable operator or by a third party designated by the franchising authority.

    Educational Access

Educational access channels are used by educational institutions for educational programming. Time on these channels is typically allocated among local schools, colleges and universities by either the franchising authority or the cable operator.
